Commercial Pesticide Applicators

A Commercial Pesticide Applicator is a person eighteen (18) years of age or older who are individuals seeking to purchase, use, or supervise the use of all pesticides (general and restricted) on a for-hire basis or employment. This includes independent contractor or employed applicators, city, county, state, and federal employees who apply pesticides as part of their job. Commercial applicators are certified in one or more categories and may use pesticides only in the category(s) for which they are certified.

  • Commercial licenses are valid for 3 years.
  • To renew a license, applicators must obtain 24 CECs or re-test.

How to Obtain a License

Step 1: Identify License Categories – Categories depends on the type of pesticides applied and location applied in.

           Step 2: Training Material – Print copies are available from Extension Offices, County Libraries, or Order from UW. Electronic versions available on this website.

                                                          – Optional In-person Training For New Commercial Applicator Program (Details below)

                      Step 3: Schedule Exam – Contact your local UW Extension Office or Wyoming Department of Agriculture Office in Cheyenne (Contact info. below).

                                 Step 4: Pass Exam – Must pass Core Exam and one Category to receive a license. All Categories must be done within 90 days. 

                                            Step 5: Submit Application – Proctor will submit your application with $25 license fee. License can take up to two weeks to receive.

Failed Exams– An Applicator can attempt to pass each exam a total of 6 times. Contact your proctor for options. 

NEW Commercial Pesticide Applicator Program

Who: New Wyoming Commercial Pesticide Applicators (Optional training)

Where: Ramkota Conference Center in Casper ,Wyoming

When: 3rd Week in January (Every Year)

Why: The program is designed to provide basic knowledge of pesticides and pest management for individuals seeking a new Wyoming Commercial Pesticide Applicators license. Participation in this program is Optional for any new applicator. This program does not prepare individuals for passing the Pesticide Licensing Exams. To prepare for your exams read and know the training manuals, all questions come directly from those manuals. 

  • Exams will NOT BE offered at this program.
  • Schedule your exams at your local County Extension Office or the Wyoming Department of Agriculture Office in Cheyenne.
  • All program materials will be provided.
  • Covered material include; the CORE manual, Basic Entomology, Basic Weed Management, Disease Management, Calibration, nozzle selection, and other topics.
